Brief Chronology of Professional Career
After completing his law degree, Mr. Smith worked on
projects at the intersection of law and public health with a
focus on childhood obesity serving as Assoc. Executive
Director of the Public Health Advocacy Inst. at Northeastern
Law School. In 2008, he joined the faculty of the Health
Center. Mr. Smith has consulted and written broadly in the
area of health law with a focus on public health.
Mr. Smith's responsiblities include teaching, research,
and service on the Dempsey Hospital Ethics Committee. Mr.
Smith is also the UCHC advisor for the joint JD/MPH degree
offered with UCONN Law School.
Mr. Smith teaches and lectures in the Medical School and
MPH Program.
Law and public health generally; role of law in individual
behavior change; law, norms and public health in complex
regulatory systems; childhood obesity; regulation of digital
environments for public health; impact of law on clinical
ethics.
