Brief chronology of professional career:
Dr. Ungemack received her doctoral training in Sociomedical Sciences and her first research experience at Columbia University. Subsequently, she was a Program Evaluator for the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in New York, and then Research Associate and Associate Director of the Greenfield Research Center in the Department of Family Medicine at Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Since 1994, Dr. Ungemack has worked with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services conducting research on substance abuse treatment and prevention issues. She coordinated and conducted studies for Connecticut's Substance Abuse Treatment Needs Assessment Projects, as well as the first statewide Substance Abuse Prevention Needs Assessment Project. She is co-investigator of the Treatment Outcomes and Performance Pilot Studies, designed to help the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services develop and implement a statewide client-based outcomes monitoring data collection system. She is the evaluator for Connecticut's State Incentive Grant, the
Governor's Prevention Initiative for
Youth, which was designed to enhance the statewide substance abuse prevention service system. Dr. Ungemack is a co-investigator of the Persistent Effectiveness of Treatment Study for Adolescents, a multi-site longitudinal study of the outcomes of marijuana treatment for adolescents. She is also recently received funding to evaluate the Department of Children and Families' Adolescent Treatment Community Action Project, a planning grant to implement evidence-based adolescent substance abuse treatment models throughout the state.

Major research interests:
Dr. Ungemack is a health services researcher with a specialty focus in substance abuse treatment and prevention. She consults for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) regarding substance abuse needs assessment and outcomes monitoring issues and the Department of Children and Families on adolescent substance abuse treatment. She is involved in research in assessing the effectiveness of treatment for adult and adolescent substance abusers, as well as the transfer of adolescent evidence-based treatment models to community practice.
