From MA point of view, if issues doesn’t exist in the media then it is not really an issue for decision makers and the larger public.
Need to Gain Access to the News Media:
1) Public Agenda-setting process is linked to the amount of media coverage of the issue
2) News media are a means of reaching opinion leaders and policymakers
Access provides visibility, credibility, and legitimacy for an issue being discussed and helps set both the public and private agendas
Health is a very newsworthy topic and public health stories usually involve conflict, controversy, community involvement, struggle --the stuff of drama and interesting news
