Department of Community Medicine & Health Care - the Health Services Research Unit is part of the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care at the UConn Health Center.

School of Medicine - the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care is just one of many departments in the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Lyman Maynard Stowe Library - the UConn Health Center's biomedical library and New England's National Network of Libraries of Medicine site.

University of Connecticut Libraries - The University of Connecticut Libraries system holds the largest public collection of research materials in the State of Connecticut. The largest library is Hommer Babbidge located on the UConn-Storrs Campus.

 

Substance Use Prevention & Treatment Resources

The Health Services Research Unit's research typically is focused in the area of substance use. Listed below are some of our favorite links regarding the field of substance abuse treatment and prevention as well as some of our funding sources.

Addictions Top Links - an extensive annotated health directory of web site links to various addiction related websites including food addiction, internet addiction, and drug or alcohol addiction.

Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) - CSAP provides national leadership in the Federal effort to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drug problems. CSAP provides funding for the Substance Abuse Prevention Needs Assessment Project, State Incentive Grant, and the Children of Substance Abusing Parent's project.

Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) - CSAT works cooperatively across the private and public treatment spectrum to identify, develop, and support policies, approaches, and programs that enhance and expand treatment services for individuals who abuse alcohol and other drugs. In the past, several projects have had CSAT grant support.

Connecticut Clearinghouse - The Connecticut Clearinghouse is the Connecticut Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resource (RADAR) Network is sponsored and coordinated through the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI), a service of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). The Connecticut Clearinghouse receives support through the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services - The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is Connecticut's state agency responsible for a variety of substance abuse prevention and treatment needs of the state. Many of the Health Services Research Unit's projects receive DMHAS support.

National Clearinghouse on Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) - The world's largest resource for current information and materials concerning alcohol and substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment.

Office of Applied Studies (OAS) - The Office of Applied Studies serves as the SAMHSA focal point for data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities. Data is collected on the incidence and prevalence of substance abuse and adverse health consequences associated with drug abuse.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) - The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is the Federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) - The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) is an initiative of the Office of Applied Studies at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The project involves archiving data, establishing a website as a vehicle for making the data and other substance abuse and mental health research information publicly available, and providing training in the use of the data.

Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator - A searchable directory of Federal, State, local, and private facilities that provide drug abuse and alcoholism treatment services.

National Mental Health Services Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN) - The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN) provides information about mental health through its web site and its national toll-free information line

 

Miscellaneous Resources

Internet Grateful Med - A search interface that provides access to Medline and other NLM databases on AIDS, bioethics, history of medicine, toxicology, health services research, and other topics.

National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology - A national center at the National Library of Medicine developed to improve "..the collection, storage, analysis, retrieval, and dissemination of information on health services research, clinical practice guidelines, and on health care technology, including the assessment of such technology."
